Boies & Clark Paper Mill opens.

[1760] Operated by James Boies and Richard Clark, it is located on the former site of nail mill in Lower Mills. The first successful paper mill in the British Colonies, it utilizes rags obtained on Saturday mornings from women and children who bring them to the company’s store in Boston. The mill is first leased to and then purchased by Tileston & Hollingsworth in 1828. It is purchased by a lumber company in 1915.
